News Views: William and Kate to wed

'In a relationship'
I’m sure gradults everywhere will be cracking out the champagne tonight, toasting the news that Prince William and Kate Middleton are to be wed next year. The date of the wedding has yet to be confirmed, I think William needs to see how much holiday he’s got left at work, although as future king he could probably make a couple of new Bank Holidays if he really needs to. Reports that he has booked a long stag weekend in Prague are also yet to be confirmed. We’ll probably find out these details on the Royal Family’s Facebook page tomorrow – yeah apparently that really does exist.

Talking of the Royal Family and social networking, the queen has expressed her delight by tweeting, I’d imagine something like ‘one is delighted, going to be ON IT tonight.’ I’m very impressed that a woman of her age is still keeping up with current technology and even more impressed that she can use her Blackberry whilst wearing those fetching white gloves I always see her in. Fair play to her. Camilla was also overjoyed by the announcement, probably because it means she’s not the newcomer at the dinner table anymore and according to the Sun inexplicably described the news as ‘wicked.’ Her PR people definitely let that one slip through the net, blimey.

Kate herself is said to be ‘daunted’ (Guardian) at the prospect of joining the Royal family and just to make things even more intimidating, her engagement ring used to belong to Princess Diana. For any normal couple losing an engagement ring can cause stress in the relationship, if she loses hers she’s going to have the whole of the Daily Express’ readership asking for her to be sent to Guantanamo Bay. From all at Gradulthood, congratulations Kate, you’re going to need it.
