Now Thats What I Call Thrift: #13

Coming up next week: Why not share a milkshake?
The Geller Rule - The One where we take financial advice from a fictional character. Although he is Jewish if you like your stereotypes.

The Geller family had already done enough when they gave us Monica and Ross, especially Ross, creator of Unagi and one of the greatest comedy characters of all time. But as an added bonus they’ve also given us this week’s lesson in thrift. Passed down from the unlikely source of wisdom, Jack Geller, ‘The Geller Rule’ dictates an individual must save 10% of their earnings. Now, as I crawl, blinking and emancipated from the shackles of a two year overdraft I will follow this rule with all the dedication you’d expect from a man who uses his personal time to write a weekly article on saving money. You might be horrified by this suggestion but it has a precedent; those who belong to a church are expected to give ten percent of their earnings and they always look smart. This week I’m urging you to sacrifice ten percent of your salary to the church of saving.
